He is named as the Father Of Bluegrass. Bluegrass has grown into an entire industri. Somehow, Bill Monroe was part in defining the folk music of America.

Bluegrass was an entirely new genre of music named after his band, the Blue Grass Boys, and the Blue Grass State of Kentucky, his birthplace.

Bill Monroe lived with his Uncle Pen (Pendleton Vandiver) for a while after loosing his parents. Uncle Pen taught young Bill a few fiddle tunes that would influence Bill's playing style on mandolin. His playing style ended up reinventing the mandolin in music.

Bill Monroe is the only person elected into all of the Country Music Hall Of Fame, the International Bluegrass Music Association Hall Of Fame, and the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The celebration of Bill Monroe’s centennial is massive. The whole bluegrass industri is participating. Exhibitions, concerts, record releases, films, festivals, instruments, merchandise and more bear his name.

Happy Birthday Bill Monroe.
