Punch Brothers: Who's Feeling Young Now?

This album is sophisticated urban pop played with a combination of acoustic instruments usually found in bluegrass bands. Any further references to blugrass is hard to find on the album.

This is the third album from Punch Brothers. It seems like they are maturing. More is accomplished with less played. 10 songs are original. Two honest covers are featured, Kid A from Radiohead and Flippen from Väsen.

Jacquire King ( Kings of Leon, Tom Waits...) has produced the album. He has added a new dimension to Punch Brothers and the album. There is depth and personality enough to give this album eternal life as a reference.

Why mention bluegrass? Punch Brothers do play one or two bluegrass numbers on stage. The topic pops up all the time. The message, "looking like a bluegrass band not playing bluegrass," is the main feature according to press (and Punch Brothers?).

The mixed signals create a focus on genre leaving Punch Brothers in a void. Their well crafted songs, produced by Jacquire King, are strong enough to stand on their own feet. It just seems like Punch Brothers do not believe in their own work.

Punch Brothers are: Chris Thile (mandolin, lead vocal), Chris Eldridge (guitar, vocals), Paul Kowert (bass, vocals), Noam Pinkelny (banjo, vocals) and Gabe Witcher (fiddle, vocals).
